Windows Live Alerts for Blogs: Inform your readers about the new posts

Windows Live Alerts is a similar service like Feedburner but the only difference is that Feedburner sends the post via email and the Windows Live Alerts sends just a headline of the post. Clicking the headline takes readers to your blog. Here’s how it works:

  1. Fill out a quick form including RSS feed URL.
  2. Receive confirmation from Windows Live Alerts.
  3. Put the “Sign Up” link on your blog inviting readers to sign up for notification of updates. (They will give you a graphic and simple HTML code for this.)
  4. Your readers will authenticate themselves (no spam here!) and can choose to receive updates via desktop alert, email, PDA, and/or cell phone.
  5. Readers can modify their settings or opt out at any time.
  6. When you update your blog, Windows Live Alerts will automatically send a headline to your readers as requested. Clicking the headline takes readers to your blog. (According to our early tests, this mechanism is much more convenient than the typical aggregator experience…) Since this is a free service, your alert will reside in a frame where we may show relevant ads. If you do not want ads shown, please contact Windows Live Alerts about the Windows Live Alerts Syndication Edition product.
  7. Your subscribers will find a log of recent alerts under the Alerts tab in their Windows Live Messenger window.
