A couple of useful tools

  1. Dead-links: Dead-links is a free broken links checker. Put your website or weblog home page URL in the input box and a little spider will read the html code and check for the broken links. The spider splits links in two categories, internal, from the same host, and external, outgoing link to different domains. Once you have put your start URL the bot will visit your website and follow all links checking for their status. When finish you will see a report showing all the bad links found, not only 404 status.
  2. Site Timer: Site Timer allows you to monitor how long it takes for a user to download one or more of your web site pages. It visits the page that your request and downloads all content that’s directly linked from that page i.e. Images, Frames, IFrames, Script files and It follows redirects. As the pages are downloaded, SiteTimer stores statistics on how long time each item takes to download, and how much data they contained. This information is then presented in a grid. Web Monitor correctly handles http compressed material (see OctaGate Switch), and it also honors keep-alive requests to give an accurate indication of the times a real browser would spend downloading the content.

Weblogs: Notify subscribers when new content is posted to a website or blog

Weblogs ia a web application that provides infrastructure Ping-Server services. Weblogs.com is a resource for the notification of weblog updates and Internet content publishing. The core function of Weblogs.com is a list of weblogs that have changed. This information is available in both HTML and XML. The Weblogs.com ping service is used to automatically inform VeriSign whenever you update content on your site. The service receives notification (a “ping”) from your site that you have added new content, and if all goes well, Weblogs.com adds your site to a list of recently changed weblogs.
