There are many ways in which you can increase your newsletter subscribers. The first step is to make sure you are looking for genuine subscribers, which means the subscribers have specifically requested to receive your mailings. You should also have double opt-in procedure in place i.e. an email confirmation message should be sent whenever a subscriber requests to receive the newsletters from you. After they verify it (after clicking on the confirmation email or replying to it), they should be added to your list.

By adding a sign up form to your website: This is the most basic step and a MUST if you want to build your email list. Make sure that the sign up form collects email by a double opt-in procedure.

Use the power of social networks: You can use Facebook and Twitter to increase your newsletter subscribers. Create a page publicizing about your newsletters and let recipients know about your newsletters.

Blog about it: From some time blog has emerged as a very effective and powerful medium to convey message. You can write about the newsletters that you send in your blog.

Organizing events: Although a bit expensive but a great way to sign up like-minded subscribers by organizing events. You can also look for sponsors for your events. You can ask the visitors of these events to provide their email address in a sheet of paper for announcements of future events.

Putting advertisements: You can use Adwords to create advertisements and run an advertising campaign for some months to increase your subscribers.

By posting comments: You can put comments in the same niche blogs. Make sure it doesn’t look like a spam.

Using Forums: You can use forums topics to increase your newsletter subscribers. Just make sure you don’t advertise aggressively and you don’t violate the terms and conditions.

Make your sign up page SEO optimized: Your sign up page should be search engine friendly as more and more subscribers should land on that page when they search for signing up for newsletters for a particular niche.

According to MailerMailer, emails with subject lines shorter than 35 characters were opened more than emails with subject lines longer than 35 characters. This data is based on aggregate statistics from over 300 million email messages sent by a sampling of over 3,000 permission based email senders. So, the best rule of thumb is to make the subject lines short and sweet rather than to make them large. But, it should not be very short also, like “Please see this”. These kind of short subject lines are often confused with spam. So how much is exactly 35 characters. For example, you want to use: “What is the ideal size of the subject line of the newsletter?” as the subject line of your newsletter. This has 61 characters. Now, we have to cut short. So the ideal newsletter Title would be: “Ideal size of newsletter subject line”. Now this has 37 characters. It is close to 35 now. There’s one more thing to make sure that we don’t have to make it so short that it looses its meaning in the process. So, the ideal subject line would be something less than or close to 35 characters.

According to MailerMailer, Monday is the best day to send your newsletters. This data is based on aggregate statistics from over 300 million email messages sent by a sampling of over 3,000 permission based email senders. As it is the first working day of the week so most of the people will go to their workplace and will check their inbox. The point is if you are making a schedule of the newsletters (which is an ideal thing to do if you are a serious email marketer) then you should always pick the auspicious day for sending your newsletters to be on Monday. It is tried and tested and it’s a foolproof day to get maximum opens and clicks. If you have some other work or something, which is bothering you for selecting Monday, then the next best day would be Tuesday. So, in general the weekdays are the best to send newsletters and weekends are definitely the worst. However, try not to send it on Friday as the people are in a different mood on these days. If you are sending some business related stuff then it is obvious that your newsletter will receive less concentration from your recipients. That also depends on the niche of your newsletter. Say, if you have a food joint or restaurant then for such an industry even Friday is alright. However, technically Monday is the best day for sending your newsletters.

According to MailerMailer, 74.5% of emails are opened within the first 24 hours and 84.3% occur within the first 48 hours. This theory provides an insight on how the emails are being opened by your recipients. This data is based on aggregate statistics from over 300 million email messages sent by a sampling of over 3,000 permission based email senders. So the implication of this theory is that when you are sending an email you should start seeing the results within duration of 2 days. This is a very important data as far the success of the email marketing is concerned. So, when you design a newsletter with a given idea and you want to test the same with another idea then you don’t have to wait for a week to know which email campaign was successful. You can check out its success rate just within 2 days. So your email campaign’s success just lies within these first two days when you sent your newsletter.
