Many people ask this question to me. Recently I designed a Vlog for a client and he said that his friends are asking why there are so many ads in his site? I said you can tell your friends that’s how you will be running your site
But, he said he doesn’t want few bucks and turn their visitors away. Well, I agree nobody wants that a visitor should go away just because of the advertisements. But there’s another point. A person doing blogging is not putting a donate button something that open source project developers put on their site. It is like “You liked my project. Please consider for a donation”. It’s a good thing as the developer has spent innumerable hours in designing that project and he is releasing that for free. If someone is donating the money, it is spent for a noble cause. With that money the developer may consider for updates or releasing a new product. But what about a blog? I don’t feel it’s a good idea for putting a donate button. Well, bloggers also spend a lot of time in their blogs. But, this is not the issue. A blog is just like a magazine and a donate button in a magazine doesn’t look too good. So the blogger has to make money from other things and these are the ads. This is now justified why to put ads? Now, the big question. How many ads should be there? I feel it should be so much that there are no spaces left behind. Now, are they annoying to the readers? For this you have to create a persona of a reader. In more easier way, put yourself in the readers shoes. When I need a something I google it and land on a particular site. Now I start reading the content. Suddenly something pops up. What I do? I close that pop up and continue reading. Oops! I hit an ad so I will hit back button. Finally back to the page what I was reading. Does it make me feel annoyed? After reading the article I got what I wanted. Now, am I annoyed? Of course not. Instead of wasting hours to do that stuff by my myself I got an idea how to do it. So, I should be thankful to the publisher. Now, this is what I think. Let me know what do you think?
Are more ads annoying to readers?
