What is Spamcop?

SpamCop uses these reports to compile a DNSBL of computers sending spam called the SpamCop Blocking List, (SCBL) and websites referenced in the spam are used to create the Spam URI Realtime Blocklists (SURBL) RHSBL. SpamCop determines the origin of unwanted email and reports it to the relevant Internet service providers. By reporting spam, you have a positive impact on the problem. Reporting unsolicited email also helps feed spam filtering systems, including, but not limited to, SpamCop’s own service. SpamCop offers free and premium reporting services to report spam quickly and accurately. SpamCop reporting streamlines the process of determining the origin of spam emails and reporting them to the relevant Internet service providers. In addition to providing direct feedback to Internet service providers, SpamCop reports fuel the SpamCop blocking list.

Some points for effective email list management

  1. Opt-in list: Make sure that you use your own opt in list for which the subscribers have specifically requested to receive your mailings. Failure to do so can cause your problems down the road.
  2. Say no to rented, purchased and third party lists: These lists can cause spam complaints and should not use them.
  3. Build your own list: If you don’t have a list you can build your own op-tin list of subscribers. You can find more details on how to build a list over here.
  4. Subject line of the message: The subject line of the message should be concise and to the point. You can find more details over here.
  5. Header of the message: A header or a headline of a message is very important and gives your newsletter a professional look. You can also put an image say your company logo in the header.
  6. Body of the message: The newsletter body should be properly formatted with no extra spaces. The images should be neat and aligned to give it a professional look.
  7. Footer of the message: It is a good practice to use a footer for your messages. Your company name with address will go over there. The Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003 (CAN-SPAM) requires a valid physical postal or post office box address to be included in every commercial emailing.
  8. Unsubscribe link in the footer: You should provide an unsubscribe link in your footer. In 2008, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) updated the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003 (CAN-SPAM Act) to clarify that all emails must include a convenient, cost-free way for your email recipient to unsubscribe from your list.
  9. Newsletter scheduling: You should send your newsletters at a definite interval of time something like twice in a month or weekly. It should not be popped anytime as the reader may find it strange.
  10. Unsubscribe requests: You should remove a person immediately if he doesn’t want to receive your newsletters.
